Arcturus Gin Review & Tasting Notes
About Arcturus Gin
Arcturus Gin was launched in October 2017 by The Torridon hotel in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands. It gets its name from the star 'Arcturus' which is one of the brightest in the skies of the Northern Hemisphere. Arcturus Gin is distilled by the highly acclaimed Dunnet Bay Distillery (producers of Rock Rose Gin) and features local botanicals including lovage, blaeberries (also known as bilberries), rowanberries, and kelp, alongside pure Scottish loch water. The Gin Guide Review Arcturus Gin recites a story of stars and constellations on its label, but in contrast there's a very down to earth gin inside the bottle and the real story is that of locally foraged botanicals and the Scottish landscape. It is dry and herbaceous, and balanced with subtly sweet notes, a hint of salinity from the kelp seaweed, and a crisp, earthy finish. Orange peel makes for an ideal garnish when served as a gin and tonic. It is a gin that is very fitting of its home at The Torridon and its Highland surroundings. - Paul Jackson, 2017 |
