Bivrost Arctic Gin: Review & Tasting Notes
About Bivrost Gin
Bivrost Arctic Gin was launched in 2016 as the first gin to be produced at the Aurora Spirit Distillery in Norway - the world's northernmost distillery. The name 'Bivrost' is derived from two ancient Norse words - 'biv' meaning 'shaking' and 'rost' meaning 'road'. 'Bivrost' is the Viking word for the Northern Lights, once thought to be a magical bridge between heaven and earth. The gin is distilled using traditional botanicals in combination with arctic botanicals, before the addition of Norwegian glacial water. |
The Gin Guide Review
Bivrost Gin, distilled at the foot of the Lyngen Alps, beautifully showcases Arctic Norwegian botanicals such as cloudberry, lingonberry and crowberry. Piney juniper, angelica root, orris root and citrus combine for an unmistakable classic core, with flavoursome layers of bittersweet fruity berry notes, warming spice from nutmeg and cinnamon, herbal undertones of fennel and anise, and a soft mouthfeel aided by chamomile. Bivrost Gin delivers flavour and depth, but also subtleties and a delicate character. Much like the Northern Lights, there's light and shade, elegance, and a lot to enjoy. A G&T with a garnish of raspberries and/or blueberries is an ideal starting point. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |
