Bluff Distillery

Bluff Distillery, located in the town of Bluff on New Zealand's southern coast, was established in 2024 - exactly 200 years after the town was founded in 1824. Bluff was one of the earliest European settlements in New Zealand and despite its exposed location it attracted whalers, sealers, fishermen and prospectors and became a trading post. Bluff London Dry Gin is made in a 300L copper hybrid still with a whey base spirit and a classic core of botanicals alongside hibiscus and lemongrass. The custom-made bottles that pay homage to the glass buoys that illegal Japanese whalers would keep their nets afloat with. 'Bluffys', as the locals are known, would brave the infamously dangerous seas to sink the nets by cutting off the buoys and keeping them as trophies.

Meet the Makers
"Bluff is the kind of place that creates a certain type of person with a certain type of spirit. Over 200 years on its time to share those stories with the world. Bluffys are different. You might meet one at a port in Nelson, Timaru or Auckland but they’ll still call themselves a Bluffy. They’re humble, real – made of tough stuff. They like their oysters fresh, and their gin clean. The Bluff Distillery Company was built for Bluffys, and those who want a taste of life on the edge, made on the edge of the world." - Chris Fraser, Founder & Distiller
