Brentingby Gin Black Edition - Review & Tasting Notes
About Brentingby Gin
Brentingby Gin's 'Black Edition' is their third gin and it was launched in March 2019. The distillery in Leicestershire was founded by South African Bruce Midgely, who formerly worked in the oil and gas industry before teaming up with Tom Nichol (former Master Distiller at Tanqueray) to learn and hone the skills of distilling. Brentingby Gin is named after the hamlet near Melton Mowbray in which the distillery is located, and the distillery is home to Bruce's self-designed still which is named Ayanda - the Zulu word for 'augment' or 'proliferation'. |
The Gin Guide Review
Bruce Midgely takes great pride in his creations and in maintaining classic gin characteristics, and the Black Edition is certainly another gin to be proud of, with traditional botanicals at the core. The flavour profile is cleverly developed around piney juniper, with zesty lime, subtly sweet meadowsweet, floral hibiscus and warming ginger all intermingling with underlying green and fruity notes. It's a clean, smooth, complex and full-bodied gin with the expected oomph of a 45% ABV spirit. Ideal starting points for serving the Black Edition are in a martini with orange zest, of in the G&T with a garnish of orange zest or lime. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |

Meet the Makers"We’re quite small, based on a farm just outside Melton Mowbray. As we also live on the farm it means it’s very much a personal operation and one that we had to get right." - Bruce Midgely, Founder
