Duke Sportsman Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
About Duke Sportsman Gin
Duke Sportsman Gin is the second gin creation of Andre and Ilse van Heerden, and is named after their dog (a vizsla) called 'Duke'. The gin is produced from start to finish at Summerfields Estate where lychees from the orchards are fermented on site for the gin's unique base spirit, before distillation in a column still and bottling. The Gin Guide Review Duke Sportsman Gin is bold and fruity with a smooth and full-bodied mouthfeel resulting from the lychee base spirit. On the palate the gin is full of fruitiness and almost wine-like character, balanced with traditional gin botanicals such as juniper, orris root and coriander. The finish has hints of rhubarb tang and bitter orange peel which also balance with the fruitiness. It is an innovative, distinctive and contemporary gin that brings something different to the table and will also have appeal for fans of fruit-led and infused gins. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |

MEET THE MAKER"We had made a decision to bulldoze the litchi orchards and replace them with macadamia nuts when a good friend suggested we try distilling our litchi fruits into a mampoer, or local vodka. This became the start of a journey of discovery."
