Echlinville Gin Review & Tasting Notes
About Echlinville Irish Pot Still Gin
Echlinville Irish Pot Still Gin was launched in 2016 and is a Single Estate gin, with the entire gin making process being carried out on site in County Down (Northern Ireland), rather than buying in the neutral base spirit as is standard in the gin industry. The Echlinville Distillery uses their own barley for the neutral spirit, alongside a large array of botanicals including rose flowers, anise, sweet kelp seaweed from Strangford Lough, and indigenous gorse flowers from the fields surrounding the distillery. The Echlinville Distillery is on the estate of Echlinville House, which was purchased and given the name by Captain Charles Echlin in the 1700s, and the gin is produced in his honour. The Gin Guide Review Echlinville Irish Pot Still Gin is colourful, distinctive and enjoyably complex. The combination of the malty character from the distillery's barley-based neutral spirit and the sumptuously creamy mouthfeel is a real differentiator. A sweetness holds throughout with prominent juniper, lavender, anise and coriander, whilst herbaceous, spice, seaweed and bright citrus notes pop their heads up, ahead of a lingering finish of rose, pine and lemon. Echlinville Gin doesn't come cheap but it is worth splashing out on a bottle if you're looking for a gin with a unique personality. - Paul Jackson, 2017 Buy Echlinville Gin
