Fort Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
About Fort Gin
Fort Gin was launched in 2018 by The Portsmouth Distillery Co, located in the 18th Century Fort Cumberland in Portsmouth. The gin is distilled in-house using two 500L copper stills from China. The recipe features 15 botanicals, including elderflower, gorse flower and sea radish, which are all grown within the walls of the Fort. Fort Gin's presentation features many references to Portsmouth and the Fort, including a navigational map on the inside of the labelling, and the gin is also bottled at 41% ABV in reference to the pentagon shaped Fort as 4+1 = 5! |
The Gin Guide Review
Fort Gin is smooth and rounded with well balanced floral notes, spice, subtle sweetness, and a peppery finish. It has depth of flavour and personality that make it moreish and appealing, and not just another gin. Combined with the charming presentation of the bottle, the historic location of the distillery, and the use of three botanicals grown at Fort Cumberland, Fort Gin has the full package and its a gin that Portsmouth can be proud of. Serve in a G&T with a lime garnish. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |

MEET THE MAKERS"The gin was created after we found 3 botanicals growing here in Fort Cumberland; Gorse Flower, Elderflower & Sea Radish. These 3 components are the framework around which I created the gin".
