What did you do before creating Ginkins Gin? With 35 years of experience in Manufacturing, I've dedicated my career to helping companies grow both in profitability and size. My background in Economics and Finance from Indiana University has been instrumental in understanding the complex dynamics of manufacturing. At its core, manufacturing is about creating a synergy between systems to balance efficiency and profitability. Success lies in knowing your business inside out—building key components that work seamlessly together to ensure quality, meet customer needs, and drive throughput. What inspired you to create Ginkins Gin? I've lived most of my life in the Louisville area, and when the craft movement started I was captivated by the distilleries opening up tours to showcase how bourbon was made. Spirits production, to me, is another form of manufacturing, and I realized I could bring my expertise into this world. While bourbon was booming I saw an opportunity with gin—a spirit that hadn't yet peaked in the US. To truly excel, I knew I had to be the best, so I pursued a postgraduate degree from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK, specializing in distilling. We launched Ginkins Distillery in November 2023, and we're already gaining international recognition for our craft. Can you tell us more about your distillery and distillation process? During our testing phase, we meticulously worked on perfecting our first gin using a 2-liter still. This small-scale experimentation allowed us to fine-tune the formula and process. We now use a 50-gallon still, set up to the same parameters, ensuring consistency in our production. Our distillery was designed with one goal in mind: to produce exceptional gin. While we don’t offer public tours, our focus remains on perfecting the craft and delivering quality in every bottle of Ginkins Gin. Can you tell us more about the ingredients you use? Ginkins Gin is crafted with nine botanicals, each selected for how it contributes to and complements the overall taste and mouthfeel. One unique aspect of our gin is the water we use—sourced from the Louisville area, the same water that makes the region’s bourbon exceptional. We’ve reviewed every ingredient and process to maximize flavors, creating a gin that stands among the best in the world. What are your ambitions for Ginkins Gin in the years to come?
We started with our signature Louisville Dry Gin and are currently developing new offerings, including a Spiced Gin and a gin infused with elderflower. We've been selling online in Kentucky and Washington, DC, and with recent changes in Kentucky law allowing Class B distilleries to self-distribute, we're working to get Ginkins Gin onto local shelves. Our mission is to show a bourbon-loving state just how great gin can be—one sip at a time. What is your favourite way to drink Ginkins Gin? I’m a big fan of a classic Gin and Tonic with lime. This love for the drink inspired the bold, citrus-forward profile of Ginkins Gin, designed to create the perfect G&T experience. You Might Also Like...
