The Shropshire Distillery was established in 2018 by Gareth and Emma Glynn and is based in Ellesmere in Shropshire. The husband and wife team launched their flagship 'Shire Gin' in July 2018, followed by their Spiced Gin and Cherry & Pink Peppercorn Gin, before moving to a purpose built distillery. At the end of 2021, Gareth and Emma rebranded with new bottles and labels as well as renaming 'Shire Gin' as The Shropshire Distillery Dry Gin, and in 2023 the distillery was moved to a new home in Ellesmere, offering Tours, Gin Making experiences and Cocktail Masterclasses. We accepted Emma and Gareth's kind invite to attend the opening night of the new distillery, getting to see of their hard work having come to fruition with the new site which is much more accessible and more prominently located. As you enter you see through to the production area complete with their two humbly-sized copper pot stills which Emma and Gareth distill all of their products in, as well as areas preparing for distillations, labelling, bottling and packing. Meanwhile, on the other side of the building you'll find a the wonderful Bar area and Gin School, complete with a Triumph motorbike as a homage to Gareth's career in motorbike racing and engineering. If you visit the distillery for a Gin School experience, you'll be welcomed with a cocktail before taking to your own mini copper still for the 3 hour experience, skilfully guided by Emma. You'll learn all about the distillation process and botanicals while enjoying G&Ts from The Shropshire Gin range, before creating your own recipe from the Botanical Wall, and finally bottling, sealing and labelling your gin to take home, but not before trying it in a G&T and sampling some exclusive releases and limited editions. Gin School experiences, Tours and Tastings, and Cocktail Masterclasses are available to book throughout the year. The distillery bar is open monthly on Friday evenings, accompanied by food from local businesses. Find the latest dates and which tasty treats will be on offer on the website.
