What did you do before creating Wild Lion Gin? Previously and currently I work full-time as a store manager in a private Rewe branch. My interest in alcoholic spirits also began in the food retail sector. Of course, the focus there was on gin. What led you to create Wild Lion Gin and what is the inspiration for it? The idea for my gin came from my great passion for gin. I had already dealt with the topic a few years ago and collected a large number of gin bottles and was able to convince myself of their taste. The idea for my Wild Lion Gin came about through the combination of this passion for gin and my fascination with the lion and the flavours and ingredients that I enjoy the most. What is the meaning and story behind the Wild Lion Gin brand name? The 'Wild Lion' brand reflects the wild and majestic lion. Since I have always been fascinated by big cats, I felt that they should be part of my gin. In addition, the cocoa bean, the main component of Wild Lion Gin, comes from the lion's home continent of Africa. Can you tell us more about the distillery you work with? The Nanotrade Distillery in Rimbach near Frankfurt am Main is a small distillery that aims to produce high-quality products and builds close and good contact with its customers. When I was looking for a distillery to produce my gin in 2021, after a long, arduous search I found Nanotrade. The special thing about the company is that they also offer production for smaller quantities and thus also support small entrepreneurs. Since I work in retail myself and attach great importance to regional and independent entrepreneurs in my branch, I contacted Nanotrade directly. The team behind Nanotrade is very friendly and ready to implement every customer wish with their expertise. This is how the current incomparable taste of Wild Lion Gin was created together with Nanotrade. Can you tell us more about the distillation process and botanicals? Wild Lion Gin features a total of 12 botanicals, including juniper, cocoa beans, vanilla, cinnamon, lavender, orange and coffee. The interesting thing about my gin is that after distillation the gin is soaked in cocoa beans again to develop the strong chocolate taste. This also makes the gin a bit cloudy and brownish. This creates this unique and unforgettable cocoa taste. There are also many botanicals in the gin that I really like and that harmonise well with each other. What is your ambition for Wild Lion Gin in the coming years?
My goal is to further expand the Wild Lion brand and continue to carry the fascination with the lion. That's why I would like to produce more products under the name Wild Lion, which always contain something from the lion's homeland. What are your favourite ways to drink Wild Lion Gin? Of course the classic, as a Gin & Tonic. We recommend the Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water and the Swiss Mountain Spring Ginger & Lemongrass Tonic Water. We recommend either an orange zest or a cinnamon stick as a garnish. But the gin is also an absolute pleasure neat on ice. Desert Island Gins: Which 3 gins would you take with you?
