Launched in 2020 by founder Isabel Moseley and her sister, Wrekin Spirit is managed by Isabel's son, Sam Moseley. The distillery is located on their farm, Sydney House Farm, near Telford and is home to a 400L copper pot and column still. The farm's cherries, plums and sloes are used in Wrekin Spirit's liqueurs and a 32-tree orchard has also been planted to provide further fruits. The 'Wrekin Spirit' name is inspired by 'The Wrekin', a 407 metre high hill and landmark in the heart of Shropshire, located close to the distillery. The Moseley's are a farming family who have been farming in the area for over 50 years. Isabel and her sister visited a Gin School in late 2017 at a distillery in a converted barn, similar to a dilapidated shed at their own farm, and this visit was the inspiration to establish a distillery and to fuel a desire for greater diversification on the farm. Just over 2 years later, the building work on the formerly dilapidated shed was finished and the Wrekin Spirit Distillery & Gin School was ready for launch. The still was installed by Scottish experts that fitted the equipment to the space available - a 400-litre copper still/column hybrid system that can produce in the region of 500 bottles per batch. The still is considerably larger than Sam required when launching, only needing to distill once a month initially, but it crucially will continue to facilitate their growth in the future. Adjoining the production area of the distillery is the Wrekin Spirit Gin School and gin tasting area. The spacious and cosy venue has a wonderful beamed ceiling and a host of mini copper pot stills for budding gin makers to create their own recipes. Visitors for the insightful Tour & Tasting will get to enjoy the following:
