**** PRESS RELEASE FROM FALKLAND ISLANDS SPIRITS ****The World’s Most Remote Gin – Tumbledown Distillery’s Falkland Islands Gin - is now Available in the British Isles.
From one of the most remote and windswept corners of the British Isles Overseas Territories comes a gin like no other. Tumbledown Distillery, one of the southernmost distilleries in the world, is proud to announce that its ultra-rare, handcrafted gin is now available for the first time outside the Falkland Islands. Hidden nearly 8,000 miles from the UK, on one of the world’s most remote inhabited islands, lies a micro-distillery producing some of the rarest spirits on Earth. Now, for the first time, the extraordinary Tumbledown Gin – handcrafted in the Falkland Islands using wild-foraged botanicals – is being made available to collectors, connoisseurs, and gin lovers in the British Isles. A Spirit Forged in Isolation – With a Story to Tell Nestled in the rugged beauty of the Falklands—a British Overseas Territory with a population of just 2,800—Tumbledown Distillery produces micro-batch gin using painstakingly foraged local botanicals, harvested by hand in this wild, untamed landscape. Each small-batch distillation (often as little as 70 litres at a time) captures the essence of the islands, from the salt-laced Antartic air to the hardy native flora. But this is more than just a gin—it’s a liquid chronicle of resilience, tragedy, and triumph. Founded by Taff Davis, a Falklands War veteran and former Royal Marine, the distillery carries deep personal history. Taff’s daughter Sian was born during the conflict, while her great-grandmother Mary Goodwin tragically lost her life in the shelling. What began as a hobby—distilling in his garage—has grown into a labour of love, producing some of the rarest and most sought-after spirits on earth. From the Falklands to the World – Against All Odds Until now, Tumbledown’s spirits have only been available to locals and intrepid visitors. But after two years of negotiations with the help of Isle of Man Government Depts, fellow Director John Hellowell (a long-time Falklands resident and conservationist) secured a unique arrangement: the Royal Fleet Auxiliary supply ship now transports these precious spirits in small batches to the British Isles. Tumbledown Distillery, believed to be the most southerly distillery in the world, has quietly cultivated a cult following among travelers and spirit collectors. Its gins are distilled in micro-batches (typically just 70 litres at a time) using traditional methods, pure island water from Mount Tumbledown, and botanicals gathered by hand in the wilds of the Falklands – including local wild herbs such as Scurvy Grass. But this is no ordinary distillery story. It’s one rooted in friendship, survival, and passion for an untamed land. Tumbledown Distillery - A Spirit of Survival, Heritage, and Remote Beauty The idea for exporting Tumbledown Gin was born through a chance partnership between Taff Davis, a retired Royal Marine and Falklands War veteran who turned his lifelong hobby of distilling into a purpose-built island business, and John Hellowell, an Isle of Man-based entrepreneur who fell in love with the Falklands more than 20 years ago – so much so that he bought a private island there and keeps it as a nature reserve. Together, and after two years of complex negotiations without aid, they secured an innovative export route: via the Royal Fleet Auxiliary supply ships, making this one of the world’s only spirits shipped aboard military vessels. “We aren’t trying to compete with supermarket gin,” says John. “This is a product of isolation, resilience, and craftsmanship – something that could only be made in the Falklands.” Tumbledown Gin is now being sold in extremely limited quantities via an exclusive online platform based in the Isle of Man. No supermarkets. No mass production. Just small-batch, story-rich spirits for those who appreciate authenticity and rarity. This is not mass-market gin—it’s a collector’s treasure, a connoisseur’s dream, and a testament to human perseverance.
