Hotham's Cardamom Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
Hotham's Cardamom Gin
Founded in January 2018 by Emma Kinton and Simon Pownall who had met over a G&T in 2017, Hotham’s is a Gin School and distillery based in a Grade 2 listed retail arcade in the Old Town area of Hull. Hotham's Cardamom Gin is produced in batches of up to 50 bottles in a copper alembic still and was developed by Simon after he was diagnosed with numerous allergies which meant he could no longer enjoy beer. The gin is named in honour of John Hotham, Governor of Hull in 1642, who reportedly refused a visit to Hull from King Charles I and toasted his decision with a glass of gin. |
The Gin Guide Review
Hotham's Cardamom Gin delivers flavour, depth and character in abundance. The balance is skilful with each of the 5 botanicals being identifiable and playing an important role. The piney juniper is combined with citrus notes from coriander seeds, bittersweet gentian root, floral and herbal orris root, and the prominent cardamom that adds earthy warmth. This is a charming gin that would be an ideal complement to spicy food and lends itself to being served with Ginger Ale or Elderflower Tonic. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |

Meet the Makers
"One of our first dates was at a gin school, and we loved that creative process so much we bought and licensed a baby still to use at home. After receiving some great feedback from a master distiller, we decided to upscale and take our spirits to market." - Simon & Emma, Founders & Distillers
