About The House of Ruhr

The House of Ruhr is a collaboration launched in 2019 between friends in the North West of England and in the Ruhr Valley of Germany. Founder, Bryn Jones from Sunderland established The House of Ruhr after retiring from Northumbria Police, while his friend Peter Meinken, a German Police Officer, owns the Distillerie Eicker & Callen in the town of Wanne-Eickel together with his family. The trio of gins, Bergmann (German for 'miner'), Vogel (German for 'bird') and Renton (named after Bryn's great-grandfather), each displays a colour from the German flag and pays tribute to the mining heritage that connects the Ruhr Valley and NW of England.

Bergmann Gin

  • Botanicals: 7 including juniper, coriander seeds, goji berry, physalis, lemon balm, lavender, yerba tea.
Tasting Notes: Bright, fruity sweetness on the palate, balanced with juniper and dry tea tannins that linger through the finish.
Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Blackberries.​

Renton Gin

  • ABV: 44.7% (Base Spirit: Wheat)​

  • Botanicals: 12 including juniper, orange peel, lemon peel, lemon balm, rose water, lavender, allspice, mace, cubebs, pepper.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of citrus peels, peppery spice and florals. On the palate, orange and lemon peels, with earthy, peppery spice and floral rose. A zesty finish with peppery spice.
Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Orange or Lemon.​
The Gin Guide Review: Renton Gin brings together 3 distinctive botanical groups with impressive balance for a flavoursome and characterful gin. The floral notes of rose are vibrant, the citrus is zesty and oily, and the spices are peppery and earthy, with each part of the flavour profile being identifiable while very much acting as part of the whole. Tasting Notes: Aromas of fresh lemon. Earthy juniper and zesty lemon on the palate. A savoury, herbaceous finish with coriander seeds and warm spice.
Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Lemon, or with Ginger Ale.

The House Of Ruhr was born from passion, with an ambition to see the products of the distillery enjoyed outside of Germany.
