Kalki Moon Premium Gin was launched in 2017 by Kalki Moon Distillery in Bundaberg in Queensland, Australia - founded by Rick Prosser, formerly the Master Distillery at Bundaberg Rum Distillery. The region is known for its agriculture and famous for its ginger which is used as a botanical in Kalki Moon Premium Gin alongside Australian lemon myrtle, cinnamon myrtle and finger limes. The distillery's name was inspired by Rick watching a shimmering sunset and a full moon rising over the cane fields of the Bundaberg suburb of Kalki and calling his wife over to watch it too, saying "The Kalki Moon is rising!".
The Gin Guide Review
Kalki Moon Premium Gin deliver flavoursome juniper, citrus and spice, with plentiful characteristics of traditional gin but with a contemporary twist of Australian native citrus and local ginger. When neat, it is fragrant on the nose with pine, orange citrus and cinnamon spice. The mouthfeel is full and smooth with abundant bright citrus notes of orange peel and finger limes, backed with earthy soft spice of cinnamon and cardamom. Fiery ginger spice joins the finish and adds length and journey to the flavour profile alongside lingering bittersweet citrus, each giving a reminder of the use of native and local botanicals. When tonic is added, cardamom is elevated and it very effectively gives cohesion between the key flavour profiles of juniper, citrus and spice, with soft cinnamon spice providing the transition into the heat of ginger.
