Nicholson Original London Dry Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
About Nicholson Gin
The Nicholson family began distilling gin in Clerkenwell, London, in the early 18th Century. J&W Nicholson established themselves as one of the largest distillers of Victorian and Edwardian and exported its products all over the world. The production of Nicholson Gin ceased in the mid-1980s after the business was sold to Allied Breweries who were primarily interested in the Nicholson's Pub estate. Nicholson Gin was revived in 2017 by Nicholas Browne and Tim Walker, cousins and direct descendants of the original Nicholson family. |
The Gin Guide Review
Nicholson Gin has a long and remarkable history which this gin does proud. Avoiding any temptation to stray from the traditional and play to modern trends, Nicholson Gin is a classic London Dry with botanicals that were used for making gin back in the 1700s. True to the style, flavours of juniper, citrus and coriander seeds emerge prominently, with good depth of flavour and further notes of angelica root, liquorice and cassia bark. The underlying woody spice develops further through the dry finish alongside lingering citrus. It's a fitting testament and revival of Nicholson Gin and makes for a classic G&T, as well as being very versatile for gin cocktails. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |
