Oro Gin Review & Tasting Notes
About Oro Gin
Oro Gin was launched in 2017 and is distilled in-house at Dalton Distillery in Scotland, founded by the Clynick family and led by Head Distiller Ray Clynick - a former scientist and graduate of Heriot Watt International Centre for Brewing and Distilling. Oro Gin's 15 botanicals and include citrus peels, pink peppercorns and lemongrass, and are macerated for 24 hours before a 'one shot' distillation in a traditional copper pot still. This is followed by the addition of water for bottling at 43% ABV. The name 'Oro' comes from the Spanish word for 'gold', intending to highlight the gin's sense of luxury, and the bottle displays circles that represent the atomic structure of gold. |
The Gin Guide Review
Oro Gin's branding is focused on simplicity, design and luxury. Meanwhile, Oro Gin has a pleasing complexity, combining citrus, spice, floral and vanilla notes with piney juniper for an impressive product. This is the result of the Oro Gin team having taken an in-depth scientific approach to flavours and to understanding flavour compounds, and it has been applied to excellent effect. Ideal in a G&T and works well with Mediterranean Tonic and a garnish of orange peel or lime. - Paul Jackson, 2017 |

Meet the MakerOnce we spoke at length about flavour profiles and balance, I went away and designed it theoretically, looking at chemical compounds found with botanicals and how variation of concentration affects flavour threshold.
