Pentland Hills Navy Strength Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
Pentland Hills Navy Strength Gin
Based in South Lanarkshire on the edge of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, the distillery was established in 2017 by husband and wife Philip and Tabatha Cox. Their copper pot still named 'Amy' is housed in a converted stable at their 13 acre small holding. Pentland Hills Gin was launched in 2018 followed by their Navy Strength in 2020, which honours Phil's Grandfather who lost his life with his comrades when their ship, HMS Electra, was sunk in battle in 1942. From every bottle sold, £1 is donated to the Royal Navy Benevolent Trust. |
The Gin Guide Review
Pentland Hills Navy Strength delivers all the benefits of a high ABV spirit but without the downsides that can accompany them. The extent of the ABV is not given away on the nose and there's no harshness to uncover it either, rather the silky mouthfeel is the giveaway - it is sumptuously smooth and full-bodied in a way that only a Navy Strength Gin could be. When neat or with a drop of water it is the earthier notes and spice that are prominent on the palate before the flavours journey into a finish of citrus and herbal mint. Then with a dash of tonic the vibrant citrus and cardamom flavours are elevated to balance with the earthiness and spice. It is made even more pleasing by the characteristics, especially in the finish, that connect it with Tarbraxus Distillers' original Pentland Hills Gin. - Paul Jackson, 2020 |

MEET THE MAKERS
"With the gin good to go, it’s delivery brought a number of challenges especially around the ability to make the bottle reusable and refillable, but this was key to us achieving both sustainability and a circular economy at the heart of how we create and deliver Pentland Hills Gin."
