Santamania Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
Santamania Gin
Santamania London Dry Gin is the creation of Madrid-based Santamania Distillery and it is produced in batches of no more than 1,000 bottles, using a base spirit primarily made from Spanish Tempranillo grapes. The gin features 14 botanicals, some of which are macerated in the base spirit whilst others are vapour infused in the copper stills named 'Lola' and 'Vera'. After distillation, water from Tenerife's Teide volcano is added to bring the gin to 41% ABV. |
The Gin Guide Review
Santamania Gin is contemporary and complex, and beautifully combines a wealth of fruit and spice character. On the nose cardamom, angelica root, ginger and cinnamon leap out, before fruity and sweet raspberry and citrus deliver the ideal balance on the palate. Through the finish the citrus notes continue and the depth of flavour is further revealed as liquorice, rosemary and nutty notes emerge. This gin is defined and distinguished by the clever and captivating contrast of fruity freshness and earthy spice. Ideal serves as gin and tonic with a garnish of lemon, lime or raspberry. - Paul Jackson, 2019 |
