Solaro Gin

Solaro Gin was launched in 2021 by Lorenzo Fornari and is distilled in Salerno at Distilleria Russo, using six botanicals including juniper from Cilento, Amalfi lemons, coffee roasted in Naples, and lemon blossom from Capri's highest peak - Mount Solaro - which the gin is named after. Inspired by Italy's artisanal heritage, Solaro Gin's hexagonal ceramic bottles are locally made and are also stackable.

Solaro Capri Gin (42% ABV)

  • Botanicals: 6 botanicals including juniper, lemon blossom, myrtle, Amalfi lemon peel extract, Amalfi lemon leaf extract, coffee. Base Spirit: Grain.​
  • Serving Suggestion: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Orange Zest or Lemon, or in a Negroni or Martini.
  • Tasting Notes: Aromas of bright citrus, with floral, earthy and leafy herbal notes. On the palate, citrus and juniper with floral and herbal notes. A finish of lingering citrus and subtle earthy coffee notes.
The Gin Guide Review: Solaro Gin is deeply evocative of Italy and Capri, from the handmade bottles and Italian ingredients to the enticing aromas and flavours. Lemons and coffee are two distinct flavours which are ubiquitous in Italy, but they are less commonly used together, making Solaro Gin all the more intriguing. The aromas are fragrant with bright and floral citrus alongside leafy herbal notes and earthy undertones. On the palate, citrus, juniper, delicate florals, and tingling herbal notes intermingle harmoniously while each having their moment in the spotlight. It is when moving into the finish that the subtle coffee notes emerge and elongate the journey of flavour, bringing contrast to the preceding citrus characters. While coffee can be a bold and dominating flavour, in Solaro Gin it is used very delicately.

​When served with Tonic Water, the pine notes of juniper and the oily, vibrant and zesty character of Amalfi lemons are elevated. And rather than delivering a prominent coffee flavour, the coffee gently gives depth and combines with the lemony citrus for a lingering and balanced bittersweet touch, and making for a G&T that is a charming and evocative tribute to Capri.
