The Captain's Wife Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
The Captain's Wife Gin
Launched in 2019 by Welsh Sisters, founded by sisters Becky and Tania from New Quay in West Wales, The Captain's Wife Gin is distilled at In The Welsh Wind Distillery in Cardigan, Wales. The name, imagery and botanicals, including the use of fig, pomegranate and Yerbe Mate tea, are inspired by the tale of a Welsh woman who sailed with her husband on the Trade Winds to Chile in the 19th century. |
The Gin Guide Review
The Captain's Wife Gin is a flavoursome, interesting and contemporary gin. Rather than focusing on the botanicals of Wales, Welsh Sisters have taken their inspiration from Chile and have innovatively utilised fig, pomegranate and Yerbe Mate tea. The result is a full and smooth gin with sweet fruit and tea aromas, a palate of juniper, bay, fruits and cassia, and a dry finish with tannin notes and a hint of earthy liquorice. It's a very nicely combined blend of classic and exotic, rarely used gin botanicals. - Paul Jackson, 2020 |
