Cheshire Gins & Distilleries in Cheshire
On This Page: Cheshire Gin and Distillery directory, reviews and tasting notes, distillery tours and gin schools in Cheshire, interviews with Cheshire distillers, and our behind-the-scenes feature at G&J Distillers in Warrington.
Cheshire, in the North West of England, has been historically best known for its agriculture and the famous Cheshire Cheese, but it is also home to Britain's oldest continuous distillers. G&J Distillers in Warrington is the legacy of Thomas Dakin who pioneered the distillation of a higher quality of gin when he begain distilling in 1761. The distillery has since moved to a new site in Warrington and is one of the country's largest gin producers, distilling a long list of household name gins including Bombay Samphire Gin, Greenall's Gin, Bloom Gin, Opihr Gin and many supermarket own-brand gins.

The gins featured in this guide are gins which, to the best of our knowledge, are produced in Cheshire. There may be additional products named after places in Cheshire or that are based in Cheshire, however, they will not be featured in this guide if our understanding is that they are produced outside of Cheshire.

Behind The Scenes
See behind the scenes at G&J Distillers, the oldest continuous distillers in Britain and a distillery not normally open to visitors. To mark the completed restoration of the G&J Distillers' still house and the release of the new Greenall's Gin bottle design, in 2017 The Gin Guide took an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Warrington distillery with Head Distiller Joanne Moore.
