Zlumak Distillery
Zlumak Distillery was established in 2021 in Spodnja Idrija by Uros Stucin. Uros began learning about distillation and experimented with methods and botanicals during the Covid-19 lockdown, finally creating the recipe of 17 botanicals that continues to be used in Zlumak Craft Gin today. The gin is made with the local spring water which was historically used by miners for producing a spirit call Gerus, and the name 'Zlumak' means 'Devil' in the local dialect. The Zlumak Distillery range has now grown to include three 33% ABV spirit drinks - Amber Gin made with melissa and peppermint, Limongino made with lemons, and PelinGinkovec made with wormwood.

Zlumak Craft Gin (45% ABV)

  • Botanicals: 17 botanicals including juniper, coriander seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, star anise, chamomile, mint, rosemary, marjoram, melissa, lemon peel, orange peel. Base Spirit: Grain.
  • Serving Suggestion: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Lemon and/or Rosemary, or in a Negroni or Martini.
  • Tasting Notes: Aromas of citrus peels and herbal and herbaceous notes. Piney juniper, citrus and herbal notes on the palate with warm undertones of cardamom and anise. A lingering finish of citrus and anise.
The Gin Guide Review: Zlumak Gin was awarded as a Winner in the Contemporary Gin category of The Gin Guide Awards 2024. The Judges were impressed by the bold and vibrant aromas and flavour profile featuring herbal, citrus, anise and peppermint notes. Individual Judge's comments included describing Zlumak Gin as having an ‘excellent palate which is very enjoyable’ and ‘pleasing fruity citrus and anise flavours which hold through to the finish’, supporting the gin’s score being in the ‘Exceptional’ score range.

Meet the Maker

"During the 2021 lockdown an old idea was realised - to become a 'moonshiner'. I searched for some literature online, made my own recipe for mash, let it to ferment, made a double distillation and macerated it with my own mixture of 17 botanicals and distilled it for a third time.
