Slingsby Gin Review & Tasting Notes
About Slingsby Gin
Slingsby Gin was launched by Mike Carthy and Marcus Black's Harrogate-based spirits company 'Spirit of Harrogate' in 2015. It is a London Dry Gin featuring spring water from Harrogate, single grain wheat spirit, and 24 botanicals (many of which are grown in Harrogate), including three types of thyme, grapefruit, rhubarb, nettles, jasmine and heather. The botanicals are sent to Langley Distillery near Birmingham for distillation before being bottled in Middlesborough. With Slingsby Gin aiming to represent Harrogate and it's heritage, it is named after WIlliam Slingsby who discovered the restorative qualities of Harrogate's spring water in the 16th Century - a discovery that saw the Harrogate grow prosperously as spa town. The Gin Guide says... Slingbsy Gin is a bold and appealing gin, from the bottle through to tasting it neat and with mixers. WIth Mike Carthy's skills as a chemist shining through, the gin is beautifully complex. It has the quality of still having individual botanicals (e.g. the grapefruit, green tea and rhubarb) step out and play an identifiable role, which can be challenging when using large numbers of botanicals. It's one of those gins where you pick up on something different each time you try it, and it makes an excellent G&T with a garnish of grapefruit. You Might Also Like... Other another complex gin with a high number of botanicals, try The Botanist Gin, Silent Pool Gin or Monkey 47 Gin. |
