Spiced Gins
Spices have long been used as gin botanicals, from flavoursome star anise and peppery grains of paradise and cubebs, to fiery ginger and warming cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. In recent years the popularity of more boldly spiced gins and seasonal editions for autumn and winter has risen greatly, with some truly wonderful Spiced Gins now on the market. Whether you like to sip them neat, on ice, with tonic or with ginger beer or ginger ale (or perhaps even with warm apple juice on a winter night!), there is a Spiced Gin for you.

How to Choose a Spiced Gin
Looking for Spiced Gins from distilleries and brands that you already know and enjoy can be an excellent place to start, or if you're looking for something new or different, here are some key considerations to help you make the perfect choice:
The Type of Spices
A key variation in Spiced Gin is in the spices in them, with every distillery having their own combination and recipe. If you're looking for a festive spiced gin then recipes including cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon will be right up your street (and be sure to read our Christmas Gin Guide). For spicier, fiery flavour profiles you can look out for gins featuring ginger, peppercorns or chilli, or if your prefer a softer, gently warming spice then cinnamon, cassia bark and cardamom will fit the bill nicely.
Spiced Gins with a Twist
As well as classic Spiced Gins, you can also discover a wealth of wonderful Spiced Gins with a twist. For example, gins combining spices with fruits, including St Giles Spiced Orange & Cranberry Gin and Junimperium's Winter Gin with spices and lingonberries. Some Spiced Gins are aged in barrels or with wood from casks, such as Palma Spiced Gin and Wild Fox 'It's a Rum Do' Gin, others are inspired by baking recipes such as Bashall Parkin Cake Gin and GWYR Bara Brith Gin, and you can even get high ABV Spiced Gins such as Inspirited Navy Strength Spiced Gin (57.1% ABV).
