Irish Gin Reviews - A to Z
Basalt Volcanic Rock Gin

Basalt Distillery was established in Co. Antrim in 2021 by Martha Garbe and James Richardson, home to their iStill and located a stone's throw away from Northern Ireland's first UNESCO Heritage Site, Giants Causeway. The dramatic basalt coastline is an inspiration for their first gin, Basalt Volcanic Rock Gin, launched in 2022, with the water used in it having been naturally filtered through basalt rock and drawn from a 600ft borehole.

Frankie & Eileen's Craft Gin

Frankie & Eileen’s Craft Gin was founded in 2018 in Randalstown, Co. Antrim, by the Mitchell family, built on a legacy of supplying high-quality brewing ingredients across Ireland. The brand takes personal inspiration and is named after Deborah & Jonathan Mitchell's two grandmothers, Frankie from Belfast and Eileen from the Glens of Antrim. This blend of cultures and geographies is represented in both the bottle design and the botanical recipe as the gin aims to bridge classic tradition with local identity.

Symphonia Dry Gin

Woodlab Distillery was established in 2018 on the border of County Tyrone and County Armagh. Home to Symphonia Spirits, Woodlab Distillery was founded by Ric Dyer, an organic chemist with a passion for food and drink and sustainability. While developing recipes, Ric analysed the flavour molecules of local and sustainably grown botanicals that could achieve the same flavour profile as imported botanicals, and the Symphonia Spirits gin range is cold distilled in rotary evaporators with botanicals such as Bramley apples and berries to reflect the lush landscape of the Orchard of Ireland.

Xin Gin
|
Xin Gin was launched in 2021 by Michelle and Gareth McAllister while they were overseeing the rebuilding and expansion of a derelict 19th century mill building to create Ahascragh Distillery - Ireland's first eco distillery. The distillery runs on renewable energy and produces Irish whiskey and gin, as well as housing a visitors centre, café and shop. Xin Gin is inspired by Michelle and Gareth's time living in Asia and features botanicals such as persimmon fruit, and the name 'Xin' means 'heart' in Mandarin.
