About Afallon Môn Distillery
|
Afallon Môn Distillery is based in a refurbished 18th-Century barn on Bedo Farm on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. The farm, which has a 200 year old well from which water for the gin production is sourced, is owned by the Owen family, and it was brothers Arwyn Owen and Gethin Owen and their friends Emyr Gibson and Keith Williams that established the distillery in 2020. The name is derived from an Arthurian legend, with Afallon (Avalon) being a mythical island that King Arthur was said to have been taken to after being mortally wounded in battle, and 'Môn' refers to Anglesey, with its Welsh name being 'Ynys Môn'. |

The Gin Guide Review
Afallon Môn Gin is beautifully constructed and balanced. It is complex without being over-complicated, delicate whilst being hearty and flavoursome, and contemporary whilst boasting an unmistakably traditional core. On the nose alone there is a wealth of character and identifiable aromas. When neat there is an instant wash of lemon and orange citrus, before the silky smooth mouthfeel is complemented by soft chamomile, cardamom and gorse. Peppery spice builds to give a journey of flavour that transitions into a lengthy finish of warming cassia, florals and coriander seeds, with lingering citrus balancing the savoury and earthy notes. With Tonic Water the juniper oils are released further for elevated pine notes, and the flavour holds strong and true for a G&T that manages to be both soft and punchy at the same time. - Paul Jackson, 2021 |
Meet the Maker
"As appreciators of gin, we found the idea of starting a small distillery quite appealing as well as challenging. Looking around, we quickly realised there were many competing gins already on the market, some of which were of excellent quality. We realised that if we were to be a serious contender in the market, our gin would have to be exceptional." - Co-Founder, Emyr Gibson
