Arbikie Distillery
Arbikie Distillery was established in 2014 and is a family-owned, single site, field-to-bottle operation on the east coast of Angus in Scotland. The distillery is run by brothers John, Iain and David Stirling and all of the ingredients for their spirits are planted, sown, grown and harvested within on the estate or locally to the distillery. As well a producing Scotch Whisky and Vodka, the distillery launched Kirsty's Gin in 2015, with a potato base spirit and named after head distiller Kirsty Black, followed by the wheat-based AK's Gin in 2017, a tribute to the brothers' father, Alexander Kirkwood Stirling. In 2020 Arbikie Distillery developed Nàdar Gin (meaning 'nature' in Gaelic), the world's first climate positive gin. Made from peas, the gin has a carbon footprint of -1.54 kg CO2e per 700ml bottle. 

AK's Gin (43% ABV)

  • Botanicals: 9 including juniper, black cardamom, black pepper, mace, orange peel, honey. Base Spirit: Wheat.
  • Serving Suggestions: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of fresh thyme and orange zest, or with Ginger Ale or in Bee's Knees cocktail.​
  • ​Tasting Notes: Aromas of orange peel, cardamom, honey and pepper. Juniper, warming spice, orange and caramel sweetness on the palate. A finish of peppery spice, warming honey and bittersweet orange.

Kirsty's Gin (43% ABV)

  • ​Botanicals: 8 including juniper, coriander seeds, angelica root, orris root, carline thistle, blaeberries, kelp. Base Spirit: Potato.
  • Serving Suggestions: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Blueberries and/or Lemon Zest, or in a Negroni or Bramble.​
  • ​Tasting Notes: Aromas of fragrant floral rose, and sea air. Floral, earthy and gently citrussy on the palate, with warm and fruity hints of bilberry. Coriander seed spice leads into a finish of gently salinity.
The Gin Guide Review: Kirsty's Gin skilfully delivers on representing its inspiration of the Scottish each coast farmlands, from the full and smooth potato base and fragrant floral notes to the subtle fruitiness of blaeberries and hints of sea air on the nose, followed by a coastal salinity on the finish from kelp. Nàdar Gin (43% ABV)

  • ​Botanicals: 7 including juniper, coriander seeds, orris root, liquorice root, angelica root, lemongrass, markrut lime leaves. Base Spirit: Pea.
  • Serving Suggestions: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of fresh Ginger or Lime.
  • ​Tasting Notes: Bold and aromatic on the nose with savoury green notes and fruity citrus notes. Juniper and green, herbal citrus notes on the palate, layered on classic, earthy botanicals. A finish with herbal complexity from lime leaves and lemongrass.
The Gin Guide Review: Nàdar Gin is a unique gin that makes a statement as a concept and also as a spirit. The aromas instantly let you know that it has ventured away from a classic grain base, while the green, herbal, subtly vegetal and fruity character of the lime leaves and lemongrass provide a flavour profile that feels fitting of its name, meaning 'nature' in Gaelic. "The Arbikie Highland Estate distillery is a genuinely single-site, field to bottle operation – the ingredients for all our spirits are planted, sown, grown and harvested within an arms-length of our distillery, and the mountain-filtered water is taken directly from our underground lagoon. Records show a distillery situated on our land dating back as far as 1794.
