Aura Distillery
|
Destilerija Aura is a family distillery in the Istrian region of Croatia. Beginning with the family making homemade brandies and jams from local fruits and herbs for their own consumption, the distillery has grown considerably and launched Gin Karbun in 2017. The gin's name, meaning 'Carbon', refers to the process of the gin being filtered through activated carbon before bottling, inspired by the Ćićarija area which is known for producing coal and charcoal, as well as being where many of the botanicals in Gin Karbun are picked.

The Gin Guide Review
Aura Distillery's Karbun Gin brings together a wealth of botanicals and flavour profiles, from floral, herbaceous and herbal notes to earthiness, spice and fruity citrus. The aromas are full and bold, celebrating the botanicals of the region, and with the addition of Tonic Water the flavours continue to be diverse and the notes of lavender, lemongrass and fennel amongst others deliver an endearing, rustic herb garden character to the gin. - Paul Jackson, 2021 |
Gin Karbun - Navy Strength
A high strength bottling of the Gin Karbun recipe, the Navy Strength edition is 58.5% ABV and has the accolade of being the first Navy Strength gin to be launched by a Croatian distillery.

Meet the Makers
Our main goal is that our products have the same quality as the ones of our grandmothers, who made products at home without any preservatives or artificial ingredients. A special place in our production belongs to Gin Karbun, made from wheat distillate, juniper and 20 spices. It is inspired by the last carbunari (coal producers) from Ćićarija, an area where natural ingredients for the creation of Gin Karbun grow. - Owners, Daša and Mišel Sirotić
