While being historically famed for lace making as well as its favourable agricultural conditions, Bedfordshire's past does not notably feature distilling. Remarkably, it appears that it took until 2016 for Bedfordshire's first distillery to be established when Mary Vincent installed a 100L iStill in an outbuilding on her family farm. Mary launched Willow Tree Gin in 2017 before moving her distillery to a new site on a farm near Sandy in 2020. Bedfordshire has technically also now gained another distillery on its very edge as Hertfordshire's Black Bridge Distillery relocated to the Luton Hoo Estate.
