Gothic Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
California-based Gothic Gin was launched in 2019 after founder Chris Klug created the original recipe during a gin making class in Barcelona in 2017. Following a resounding response from the class organisers and classmates, Chris decided to produce the gin commercially and named it Gothic Gin in reference to his location at the time in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. The Gothic Gin motto printed on the neck of the bottle is “Per Divinitatem Lumen” meaning “enlightenment through divinity", and the company dedicates 5% of gross profit to philanthropy, focused on clean oceans and clean water. |
The Gin Guide Review: Gothic Gin is bold and flavourful, combining orange peel and eucalyptus distinctively and effectively. It has a distinguishable and familiar classic core of juniper, angelica root, orris root and coriander seeds, enhanced with sweet citrus and the bright and green herbal character of the eucalyptus. Black pepper adds balance and the gin opens up further with a dash of water or tonic. It holds its flavour and balance well when mixed, and orange peel is an ideal garnish starting point. As the American gin industry grows, Gothic Gin is certainly an exciting spirit and brand. - Paul Jackson, 2019

"Being an American with a lack of access to high quality gin, frankly I was not a big gin fan at that time. I was however curious to learn how to make this spirit even if just to know why I didn’t care for it so much."
