Highclere Castle Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
Highclere Castle Gin
Highclere Castle is a 19th Century country house on the Hampshire/Berkshire border and is home to Lord and Lady Carnarvon, as well as famously being the setting from TV's Downton Abbey. Highclere Castle Gin was launched in 2019 and features botanicals influenced by the gardens and historical associations of Highclere Castle. The lavender is inspired by the borders in the Monks’ Garden, the use of orange is inspired by the orangery and greenhouses, and the gin also features oats from Highclere's estate which have been growing on the estate since the 13th Century. |
The Gin Guide Review: Highclere Castle London Dry Gin is everything you'd expect from a gin inspired by the impressive and historic estate - it's a very classy and charming gin. It doesn't aim to shock or break boundaries, rather to impress and please. This is achieved through delicate, balanced flavours and subtleties, with floral notes of lavender and lime flower, a combination of bright and peely citrus notes from orange and lemon, classic juniper and earthy notes of angelica and cassia. Aided by the use of oats, the mouthfeel is smooth and light, but still with good body. The gin comes to life and is most at home in a G&T, which demonstrates the well-balanced juniper, citrus and florals. Orange peel and rosemary make for ideal garnish starting points. - Paul Jackson, 2020
