James Gin was launched in 2021 by TV Presenter, James May, who conceived the idea to combine the flavours of parsnip and Asian spices before teaming up with Hugh Anderson of Downton Distillery to create Asian Parsnip Gin. Having originally planned to just make enough gin to sell in his pub, the Royal Oak in Wiltshire, James took Hugh's advice to produce 1,400 bottles and to make it available to the public. The first batch sold out in days and the range has since been expanded to include American Mustard Gin, London Drizzle Gin, and a Navy Strength edition of Asian Parsnip Gin.

"Any reasonably conceited TV presenter or Hollywood actor will eventually have a go at making a gin. I was conceited enough to try it. But, in my defence, my gin really is mine and I came up with the idea of blending the flavour of parsnip with Asian spices. I teamed up with Hugh Anderson of Downton Distillery who soon made it clear how challenging it would be to create a gin... a process in which knowledge of microbiology is combined with pure artistry and even luck.
