Located in a refurbished well house in northeastern Germany's Mecklenburgische Seenplatte region, Old Well Distillery launched Old Well Gin in 2020. Old Well Gin is produced using two copper Holstein stills, a charcoal-filtered grain base spirit, and juniper handpicked in the surrounding forests of Müritz National Park. Found and Distiller, Alex 'Olli' Remzi, began his career as an engineer in the USA before moving to Germany and designing and building the distillery by hand.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of juniper, earthiness, citrus and subtle florals. Clean and light on the palate with orange, lemon, fresh florals and earthy, warming spice. A warm and gently peppery finish with bitter orange notes.
Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with Classic or Mediterranean Tonic and a garnish of Lemon or Orange, or in a White Lady or Martini.
The Gin Guide Review: Old Well Gin delivers a charming contrast and balance of peppery juniper and earthy spice with brighter citrus character and gentle florals. The mouthfeel is light, clean and fresh with delicately combined flavours that lead into a warming finish of peppery, earthy spice and lingering bitter orange notes. With Tonic Water, Old Well Gin continues to show its light character and combination of classic gin botanicals and contemporary notes, with plentiful versatility for cocktail making also. - Paul Jackson, 2022
