Porthcawl Distillery
Porthcawl Distillery was established in 2023 by local residents Chris Leyshon and Glenn Loosemore. Their wooden cabin style distillery is home to a 50L copper pot still in which their signature Porthcawl Welsh Dry Gin is made, taking inspiration from the South Wales coastline and featuring 12 botanicals including locally foraged seaweed and gorse.

Porthcawl Welsh Dry Gin (43% ABV)

  • Botanicals: 12 botanicals including juniper, angelica root, coriander seeds, cardamom, cassia, cloves, pink peppercorns, burdock root, nettle, gorse, seaweed, lemon peel. Base Spirit: Grain.​
  • Serving Suggestion: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Lemon or Pink Grapefruit, or in a Martini or Bramble.
  • Tasting Notes: Aromas of juniper, citrus, warm spice and seaweed. On the palate: juniper and lemon with touches of gorse, burdock root and cardamom. A herbal and warmly spiced finish with cassia, cloves, nettles and a subtle note of seaweed.​
The Gin Guide Review: Porthcawl Gin has depth, balance and cohesion, with subtle coastal notes that connect it neatly with the seaside town. Even on the nose the botanicals and layers of flavour are identifiable and play well-defined roles. The flavours open up on the palate with juniper and lemon, supported by gorse, burdock root, cardamom and subtle undertones of seaweed. Peppercorns and coriander seeds then lead into a finish that is herbal with nettles and warmly spiced with cloves and cassia, before subtle seaweed notes gently linger. With Tonic Water, brighter pine notes and waxy lemon notes emerge further, spice undertones give depth, and notes of nettle and peppercorns give a clean and crisp character for a moreish G&T that feels very fitting of the Porthcawl. - Paul Jackson, 2023
