About Silent Pool Gin
Silent Pool Gin is distilled in-house on a former farm site on the Albury Estate in Surrey, and it was founded by former ITV Director Ian McCulloch and drinks expert James Shelbourne. As well as using water from the spring-fed Silent Pool pond next to the distillery, from which the gin takes its name and the colour of its bottle, it features 24 botanicals. These include chamomile, rose, elderflower, Kaffir lime leaf, pear, bergamot and local honey. Two simultaneous macerations take place, one with the hardier botanicals and one with more floral botanicals, before the resulting spirits are added to the Holstein copper still (heated by a wood-fired boiler) along with further botanicals in the gin basket in the neck of the still. The Gin Guide Review Silent Pool Gin is refreshingly different, from the approach at the distillery through to the resulting gin and even the bottle. The outcome is that even with exponential growth, Silent Pool Gin has been able to maintain and build upon its roots, story, quality and processes. The gin itself is beautiful and complex, with deep layers of floral chamomile and lavender, Kaffir lime leaf and citrus, sweet honey and elderflower, and earthy cubeb and cassia bark.
