About Sloemotion Distillery

Founded in 2002, Sloemotion Distillery was established by ecologist, Joff Curtoys after an initiative to improve wildlife habitats resulted in an abundance of sloes. Having grown up drinking his father’s home-made Sloe Gin, Joff had the idea to establish Sloemotion Distillery and began producing Sloe Gin and liqueurs. In 2016, taking inspiration from the hedgerows of North Yorkshire, the distillery launched their first full-strength gin, Hedgerow Gin, with 6 botanicals foraged on the farm and from local hedgerows, including crab apples, rosehips, elderflower, nettles and wildflower meadow hay, together with classic botanicals and the stones from the sloes used to make their Sloe Gin.

"In 2015, looking for ways to make our Sloe Gin even better we began to think about the botanicals that were used in the “base gin” and went back to forage in the hedges, looking for inspiration. The ensuing gin made with traditional gin botanicals and foraged ingredients was so delicious we decided to launch it as a standalone product, giving it the name Hedgerow Gin." - Founder, Joff Curtoys
