Thunderflower Distillery in Devon was established in 2017 by Dominic and Anicca O'Nions and they launched their flagship gin, Thunderflower Gin, in 2018 which is distilled with a 'one shot' vapour-infusion in their 200L pot still. The 'Thunderflower' name is derived from an old Devonshire legend that says the tiny white 'thunderflowers' that can grow on thatched cottage roofs can ward off both lightning and witchcraft. In 2020, Dominic and Anicca launched their Navy Strength Gin, 'FireShip', inspired by the last invasion of England which took place in 1690 in Teignmouth, close to the distillery, during which 'Fire Ships' were used - wooden ships packed with gunpowder that were set alight and launched towards the enemy fleet.

Meet the Makers
"We use a quite a few botanicals in our gins as we like complex flavours. When we start with a recipe we select broad flavour zones such as Spice, Floral, Herbal, Citrus for example to decide where the flavour balance of the gin is going to be and then select the various botanicals that match the balance. We then start building a recipe from there, adding and removing botanicals and adjusting the various quantities over a series of iterations until we get a balance that is just right." - Anicca & Dominic O'Nions, Founders
