About Urban Rhino Gin
Launched in 2020, Urban Rhino Gin was founded by friends John Heeds and Mike Hall, and is distilled at In The Welsh Wind Distillery in Wales. The brand is inspired by the friends having both been born in and worked in some of world's great cities, as well as wanting to use product sales to contribute towards the conservation of rhino habitats and combat poaching through supporting the registered charity Waterberg Rhino UK. |
Urban Rhino Gin - Review
Tasting Notes: Aromas of traditional juniper, lemon peel, earthy notes and orris root. Piney juniper, earthy angelica root and lemon on the palate with parma violet notes of orris root. A finish or coriander seed spice, lingering cassia and a hint of liquorice. Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of lemon peel or grapefruit and rosemary, or in a Martini or French 75. |
The Gin Guide Review
Urban Rhino Gin's branding combines nature with modern society and the gin is entirely fitting with this too. The traditional gin botanicals are used in proportions that give a gently contemporary feel, with lemon peel and parma violet character of orris root achieving this when neat. With Tonic Water the earthiness of juniper and angelica root are elevated, making a G&T with a citrus garnish an ideal serving, or a dry Martini. - Paul Jackson, 2021 |
Meet the Makers
"Enjoying the rewards available in our metropolises is one thing, but we had become acutely aware of the pressure this global urbanisation had put on the natural world. The Rhino and its fight to endure is a prime example of a magnificent and ancient animal being under severe threat from loss of habitat and the purely gratuitous and illegal trade in Rhino horn resulting in nearly 10,000 Rhinos and over 250 Rangers meeting their deaths in South Africa since 2008. We felt obligated to help them and the name Urban Rhino was born." - Director, John Heeds
