Winchester Distillery
|
Founded by former software developer Paul Bowler from his home in central Winchester, Winchester Distillery and Twisted Nose Gin were launched in 2014. After outgrowing the space available at his home, Paul moved to a dedicated distillery premises in Winchester which is now home to a 150L Bain-marie still and a 500L iStill for vodka, rum and whiskey production, as well as hosting tours and tastings. Twisted Nose Gin uniquely features watercress as a signature botanical, with Hampshire being famous for growing watercress, and the name is derived from the Latin name for watercress (Nasus Turtus) which translates as Twisted Notes.

Meet the Maker
"I decided to take 6 months off work to try to get a gin to market. I accepted that if Winchester Distillery wasn't successful then at least I had scratched that itch and would get back on that train to London. Thankfully, Twisted Nose was a success and we would sell-out each weekend at the Farmer's Markets in Winchester. Before I knew it I had run out of space at home and had to move to larger premises. I've not looked back since." - Paul Bowler, Founder & Distiller

Behind the Scenes
In August 2023, The Gin Guide had the pleasure of visiting Winchester Distillery to meet Paul, to get to know all about the history and stories behind the distillery, to hear all about their plans for the future, and to enjoy learning all about their stills, production processes, and botanicals - including how the watercress is sourced and prepared. Read on for a sneak peek of the distillery or book a Tour & Tasting to visit in person.
