East Coast Distillery
|
Launched in 2020, East Coast Distillery in North Essex was established by 5 friends working in jobs across the public sector. The distillery is home to a 500L stainless steel modular still with column, and is located in Landermere alongside Walton Backwaters - a tidal estuarine salt marsh. Their flagship gin, Tide's Fortune Essex Dry Gin, is vapour infused and features locally grown sea buckthorn and foraged sea purslane. The team have designed out the use of plastics in their bottles and use fully recyclable or biodegradable packaging.

Tide's Fortune Gin
Tasting Notes: Aromas of juniper, grapefruit and green coastal notes. Juniper, citrussy grapefruit and a hint of anise from fennel and caraway seeds on the palate. A smokey finish of Lapsang Souchong tea, led in by peppery juniper & sea buckthorn piquancy. Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Lemon Peel |
The Gin Guide Review:
Tide's Fortune Gin is a contemporary gin with a real sense of place achieved with the coastal botanicals that represent the distillery's location. With Tonic Water the juniper, grapefruit, citrus piquancy of sea buckthorn, gentle anise and soft smokey character continue, cohesively matching the flavours experienced when neat. It is a well-balanced gin with hints of freshness, subtle citrus sweetness and sea buckthorn piquancy leading into more savoury, smokey and coastal notes. Tide's Fortune Gin holds its flavour impressively well when mixed in a G&T and is also well suitable to cocktails such as a Bramble or Negroni. - Paul Jackson, 2021 |

Meet the Makers
"We are lucky that the hedgerows and shoreline around our distillery are rich with wonderful inspiration. For our signature gin – Tide’s Fortune – we knew we wanted to use the amazing Sea Buckthorn which grows wild on the sandy beaches nearby and is also farmed just a stones throw from the distillery. With this as our starting point we created our recipe."
