***PRESS RELEASE FROM THE GOWER GIN COMPANY***
March 2019: Gower Gin launches ‘GŴYR: Rhosili’ - the Dylan Thomas Commemorative Edition Dylan Thomas loved the sea and spent much of his childhood on Gower. He particularly loved Rhossilli Beach and Worm’s Head, writing about it in works such as ‘Extraordinary Little Cough’ and ‘Who do you wish was with us.’ Gower Gin has been working with the Estate and family of Dylan Thomas to celebrate the time in his life when the young Dylan used to travel from Swansea to visit Gower. This ‘Signature’ Edition gin pays homage to the youthful Dylan, full of creativity and exuberance. The gin sings of the sea with fresh and citrussy flavours from sea buckthorn and foraged Rhossilli gorse flower, complementing juniper, coriander, angelica and the delicate linden flower. Like all Gower gins, GŴYR : Rhosili is produced in the London Dry style which means that all of the flavour of the gin comes from the carefully balanced distilling process. The line on the tamper-strip on top of the gin is taken from the opening line from ‘Under Milk Wood’. “To begin at the beginning: It is Spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobblestreets silent and the hunched, courters'-and- rabbits' wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea.” We are proud to announce that Swansea Grand Theatre will be stocking this product as well as offering it to their broader membership as a special offer on launch day. Through these links with Swansea Council arts venues (including the Dylan Thomas Centre, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and Swansea Museum), we hope that the launch will stimulate interest in Swansea, Gower and Wales and, in particular, promote the Arts in Wales and the words of one of our greatest 20th Century writers. The Gower Gin Company was established by Siân and Andrew Brooks in 2017 and the micro-distillery is based in Port Eynon on Gower producing craft gins, in small batches, within sight of the sea. They produce GŴYR Gower Gin in the classic London dry style (at 43%) infused with locally foraged bronze and green fennel and Pinwydd (also London Dry – 43%) made with aromatic pine tips from North Gower, orange and pink peppercorn.
