Lancaster Spirits Co.
The Lancaster Spirits Company is a grain-to-glass distillery housed alongside Lancaster Brewery in Lancashire. Their debut gin, Firecracker Gin, was launched in 2022. Unlike the majority of gin distilleries which buy in their base alcohol, The Lancaster Spirits Company distill their own from a specially concocted wort (distilling beer) made from wheat and rye. The distillery also produces vodka in their 18-plate column still and followed up the launch of Firecracker Gin with the release of their Raspberry & Rose Gin.

Firecracker Gin (40% ABV)

  • Botanicals: 17 botanicals (undisclosed). Base Spirit (made in-house): Wheat & Rye.
  • Serving Suggestion: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Orange or Pink Grapefruit, or in a Negroni.
  • Tasting Notes: Earthy notes of evergreen, zingy citrus, exotic spice, and woody notes.

"In 2018 when we started exploring the opportunity of opening a distillery we applied the same principles and questioned why 95% of UK micro distilleries buy in their ethanol? We already had a brewery capable of producing exceptional quality wort, what we needed was to convert that wort (a base beer) into spirit.
