North Point Distillery, based in Caithness in the Scottish Highlands, was founded in 2020 by north coast native Struan Mackie and Canadian Alex MacDonald. Their flagship gin, Crosskirk Bay Gin, was launched the same year and features a molasses base, rowan berries from the banks of Forss Water, Icelandic moss, and Scots pine taken from a family Christmas tree planted in the garden in 1993.

The Gin Guide Review
Crosskirk Bay Gin is a rarity in using molasses as a base spirit rather than the more commonly used grain, and it is used to great effect. The nose hints at the unusual base and the distinctive character of the molasses is subtly evident, with a heartiness following on the palate and the bright zing of rowan berries and sea buckthorn giving a sense of place and identifying with the Scottish coast pleasingly. With the addition of Tonic Water, the juniper oils release and the pine notes are elevated while all round the flavours come together with a lovely balance of citrus, cardamom spice and peppercorns which give body and bite in thoroughly enjoyable G&T. - Paul Jackson, 2021 |
