Fowey Valley Cidery & Distillery
After Barrie and Geraldine Gibson had been making their own cider from their 6 apple trees for over 20 years, they launched Fowey Valley Cidery in 2012 from an orchard in Golant, on the banks of the river Fowey in Cornwall. Having since moved into larger premises in Lostwithiel, the couple began producing spirits from their apples, including a Vodka, Eau de Vie, and their Foy Gin which was launched in 2018. The production begins with their own 7% ABV alcohol which is further distilled to produce a 95% ABV Vodka before being distilled in an iStill with 6 botanicals and reduced to 40% ABV for bottling.

Foy Gin (40% ABV)

  • Botanicals: 6 including juniper, coriander seeds, sweet orange, bitter orange, Sicilian lemon, lime zest. Base Spirit: Apple.​​
  • Serving Suggestions: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Raspberry or Blueberry, or in a Negroni or Martini.
  • ​Tasting Notes: Aromas of soft apple, citrus and juniper. Palate: Crisp, dry and fruity with notes of apple and citrus oils. A finish of coriander seeds and lingering citrus and apple.
The Gin Guide Review: Foy Gin is a characterful gin that connects pleasingly with the cider producing origins of the distillery. The base spirit made from apples delivers its own gently fruity aromas and character on the palate compared to more commonly used grain spirit, while the oils from the orange, lemon and lime peels add enjoyable weight and texture to the mouthfeel. With Tonic Water, the citrus flavours are elevated further as more of the oils release, making for a contemporary and fruity G&T that feels very fitting of its roots in a rural Cidery. ​- Paul Jackson, 2023

"I worked with a couple of distilleries over a period of 5 years to learn how to turn our cider into spirits and 3 years ago we bought our first i-still from the makers in Holland.
