What did you do before creating your gin? CBA Gin Co was founded in 2020 by Chris Stewart and I (Peter Barney). We were running a successful cocktail bar in Soho, then Covid hit. It was at this point that we decided to make something positive of the situation we found ourselves in. We combined our experience over many years both running bars and also running global alcohol marketing campaigns and channeled everything from our pasts into the launch of these new gins. What made you decide to create your gins, and what’s the inspiration behind them? The idea of making a gin was bubbling around for some time. But, during lockdown we were not being able to trade or travel. With time on our hands it was the perfect opportunity to make the dream a reality. We wanted to achieve a level with the branding that was destination based, that evoked the golden age of travel and cocktails, posters, glamour and style. And to capture the essence of the destination in both the taste and visual presentation - so the gins had to be inspired by places that we knew well, we didn’t just stick a pin in the world map and go with that! Can you tell us more about the distillery? Our gins are made at Silent Pool Distillery in Surrey, chosen for their long, established record for making award winning premium gins. We have worked incredibly hard over the last year to finally now be able to offer the tastes of Marrakech and California in our gins to customers. Can you tell us more about the still, distillation process and botanicals? Silent Pool distillery use their hybrid Arnold Holstien wood-fired still. They use both pot and column to achieve the right amount of reflux to create the perfect balance of flavours. The distillation process is a combination of steep & boil for the harder botanicals and tea & vapour infusion for the fresh botanicals. What have been the biggest challenges and achievements so far? Our biggest achievement was to launch our brands during lockdown. Since then we have met and worked with the friendliest group of gin enthusiasts, offering support, advice, listings and, of course, tastings! How would you describe your gins in 3 words? Gin drinker’s gins. What's your favourite way to drink your gins?
Marrakech – with a plain tonic and a lemon twist & fresh mint. Also as a Mojito. California – with pink grapefruit and fresh sage. Also perfect as a Negroni or a Cosmo. Which gins would you always have on your gin shelf (other than your own of course!)? We have met so many fantastic gin brands in the last few months – Atlas Gin is amazing and we are great fans of the Old Bakery range. What's next for you and CBA Gin Co - any exciting plans? We are going to focus on our Marrakech & California Gins for most of 2022 – maybe a new brand to come later in the year... You Might Also Like...
