What did you do before launching The Herbal Gin Company? I ran a renewable energy, design, installation and maintenance company. What made you decide to launch your gins? The idea came about as I like gin but couldn't find a gin that I loved. I thought the other gins on the market tasted like the gins I used to steal out of my Mam's drinks cabinet! Can you tell us more about the distillery and still? Our distillery is small but functional, and as an engineer we selected a modern computer controlled G-Still which we had commissioned on the 17th of March 2020. Can you tell us more about your distillation process and botanicals? At The Herbal Gin Company we choose to be different and as such we process our gins in a unique way and cut to tails at an unusual temperature, because in a crowded market dare to be different. What can visitors experience if they visit the distillery for a tour/tasting? As a our distillery is co-located with our Aviation themed bar (The Aviator Gin Bar), our visitors can relax in the bar while tasting our extensive range of gins paired with Fever-Tree tonic, all while sat in airline seats looking at the full-sized helicopter and other cool aviation related items which the bar is constructed of. What have been the biggest challenges and achievements so far? The main challenge we faced was our still - it was commissioned 6 days before the first lockdown, during which we lost all of our trade customers overnight. But we used this time wisely and set about developing our range of Gins with no time pressure, which gave us the freedom to perfect our unique gin taste. This approach gave us the experience to develop our unique 'Gin with a Difference'. We had a clear vision of what I wanted to create and we perfected it. How would you describe your gins in 3 words?
Clean, Crisp, Unique. What's your favourite way to drink your gins? Over ice with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic. Which gins would you always have on your gin shelf (other than your own of course!)? I always have a bottle of Opihr Gin as I love the complexity of the flavour. What's next for you and The Herbal Gin Company - any exciting plans? We have developed and perfected our 'Gin with a Difference' with sales steadily increasing week on week as it gains a good reputation. Next we would like to install a automated bottling plant to cope with the demand. You Might Also Like...
