What did you do before creating Vogis Gin?
Before creating Vogis, I worked as a senior food and spirit technologist in a number of manufacturing roles.
What made you decide to create Vogis Gin and what is the inspiration behind it?
Our inspiration began when we discovered an old notebook that had belonged to our grandfather - scientist and doctor, Professor Vardan Yavruyan - and within it he had written his ideas, formulas and processes for the perfect gin recipe. Unfortunately, he had never been able to bring his ideas to life, so we wanted to reproduce it for all to experience.
Can you tell us more about the distillery and distillation process?
Our distillery adopts quite unique production techniques to achieve the perfect spirit. We carefully hand pick and select the botanicals and use a combination of pot still and column still distillation to ensure the optimum flavours and aromas are produced. The star ingredient, the juniper berries, are picked in the Armenian Highlands, and they are the trademark of our flavourful drinks. What have been the biggest challenges and achievements so far?
In Armenia, we are keen gin drinkers, but we cannot find an Armenian gin which makes use of the wonderful botanicals, tastes and aromas that Armenia has to offer. We are proud of our home country and having found the right variety of Armenian Juniper berries for producing gin, we feel we have discovered something special not just for Armenia, but for the whole world to try.
How would you describe Vogis Gin in 3 words?
Unique, Rare, Unforgettable.
What's your favourite way to drink your gin?
Served simply on 3 cubes of ice and enjoyed as intended. Or another option is served with tonic water and a sprig of rosemary.
Which gins would you always have on your gin shelf (other than your own of course!)?
At the moment we are enjoying Gin Mare, a gin produced in Spain
What's next for you and Vogis Gin - any exciting plans?
We may be small now, but our ambitions are high. We believe we have something special to offer the world and aim to become the world's most well-known premium gin. We also have some amazing new products in the pipeline for this year. More to come on that soon.
