Hawker Market Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
Hawker Market Gin
Based in Victoria, Australia, That Spirited Lot Distillers was founded in 2018 by JP Willigenburg and they launched Hawker Market Gin, their 2nd gin, in 2019. The base spirit for the gin is produced from wine from the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley, which is pot-distilled into a brandy spirit and then turned into a neutral spirit. Hawker Market Gin aims to recall JP's travels through Asia and the the aromas or Asian markets and village life. The botanicals, including coconut, lemongrass and ginger, are macerated in the base spirit for 24 hours before distillation in a single-shot in their copper pot still. |
The Gin Guide Review
Hawker Market Gin transports you to the markets and villages of South East Asia with vibrancy and depth of flavour. On the nose, alongside juniper it is an exotic affair with citrus, fresh spice and a hint of lemongrass and coconut. The mouthfeel is beautifully smooth and light, with complexity and impressively balanced citrus, spice, lemongrass and coconut notes. Warming ginger and pink pepper build through to the finish alongside a lingering freshness. Adding a drop of water brings out more of the nutty, woody and sweet notes of coconut, while tonic water highlights lemon and lime notes - an ideal accompaniment to a Thai curry. - Paul Jackson, 2020 |

MEET THE MAKER
"We choose to do things the ‘hard way’, or the ‘fun way’, it depends how you look at it. We are known for producing single shot, pot distilled gins with big flavour and oily texture. We run things low and slow to extract the most flavour and we cut everything by taste to allow us to get the most from the seasonal botanicals we select."
