Chalgrove Artisan Distillery
Chalgrove Artisan Distillery, home of OX Gins, is a family run distillery and was one of the first gins to be produced in Oxfordshire when founders, Bob and Jenny Clark began distilling from their home in Chalgrove in 2017. In 2018 they launched their flagship gin, OX44 Gin named after their postcode, and each of their subsequent gins have been named after Oxfordshire postcodes . Having outgrown their home distillery, Bob and Jenny moved production to new premises in Spring 2021, complete with a bar/tasting room and gin school. Tasting Notes: Aromas of piney juniper, lemony citrus and heather. Crisp and dry palate with juniper, floral heather, lime leaves and subtle mulberry tartness. A lingering finish of dry black pepper and cardamom.
Serving Suggestion / Garnish: Gin & Tonic with a garnish of Pink Grapefruit and Peppercorns, or in a Bramble or Negroni.
The Gin Guide Review: OX44 Gin is flavoursome and contemporary, bringing together earthy juniper and cardamom, dry black pepper and vibrant lemon, united by the citrus spice of lime leaves, while floral heather and bittersweet mulberries add depth and complexity. Pleasingly, each botanical is evident and plays a distinct role in the flavour profile and the flavour transitions within it. With the addition of Tonic Water the gin achieves an enjoyable balance of the floral heather, bright lemon notes and peppery, earthy spice, while lime leaf notes are elevated further. - Paul Jackson, 2021
